The Longines "Ultrachron" was born in the 1960s, a period when the accuracy competition among mechanical watches reached its peak.
The Ultrachron is a high-beat automatic winding model from Longines, released in 1967.
To achieve higher accuracy in mechanical watches at the time, a high-beat movement with 36,000 vibrations per hour was adopted.
This mechanism, which sought stable accuracy by ticking more finely than typical mechanical watches, symbolizes Longines' long-standing chronometer technology.
The name "ULTRA-CHRON" on the dial, derived from "Ultra-Chronometer," signifies that it is a model boasting high precision.
This is a timepiece that combines Longines' technical prowess with a practical design characteristic of the 60s.
Rather than ostentatious decoration, the watch's pursuit of accuracy reflects the distinctive elegance of Longines.
■Dial and Case Design
The dial is a soft silver tone.
With a clean layout that makes good use of negative space, slender applied bar indexes with black lines enhance visibility on the pale dial.
The hands are pencil hands, also with black lines.
They create a sense of unity with the indexes, offering the legibility expected of a practical watch within a simple face.
A date display is positioned at 4 o'clock.
Instead of the common 3 o'clock position, the slightly angled calendar adds a subtle touch of individuality to the neat dial.
At 6 o'clock, the Ultrachron logo and the inscription "ULTRA-CHRON" are displayed.
This striking detail subtly conveys its identity as a high-precision model.
The case is a rounded tonneau-shaped stainless steel case.
The natural curve from the bezel to the case sides and lugs creates a smooth, integrated feel rather than a sharp impression.
The fully polished case highlights its rounded form when it catches the light.
Despite its generously proportioned design, the glossy finish keeps it from feeling heavy, making this a piece that exudes the modern atmosphere of the late 60s.
■Movement
The movement is the automatic Cal.431.
This high-beat movement, vibrating at 36,000 beats per hour, underpinned the Ultrachron and clearly demonstrates Longines' dedication to accuracy at the time.
At its launch, Longines claimed a high accuracy for the Ultrachron of "1 minute per month / 2 seconds per day," and the Cal.431 was the crucial movement supporting this claim.
While high-frequency movements require delicate adjustment, this piece not only boasts elegant aesthetics but also demonstrates Longines' technical skill internally.
■Styling
Case size: Length 40.1mm, Width 37.6mm, Thickness 11mm, Weight 50g
The combination of the rounded tonneau-shaped case and the clean silver dial gives it an elegant yet slightly distinctive impression.
It pairs well with sophisticated attire such as shirts, jackets, knitwear, and slacks, and when worn with simple clothing, the watch's form and dial details stand out even more.
The modern case design, characteristic of the late 60s, also goes well with casual styles like denim or leather jackets, making it an easy watch for everyday wear.
■Condition
The case has minor scratches from use but no noticeable damage or deep scratches.
The dial remains in beautiful condition with no signs of aging or corrosion.
The movement is operating well, with no issues during use.

Furthermore, upon delivery, we will include our unique OH certificate, explaining the work performed, along with photographs of the mechanical disassembly and maintenance.
While it's true that the product itself, being pre-owned, cannot be guaranteed never to break, we take these steps to ensure you can enjoy the watch's original performance and use it with peace of mind in the future. We appreciate your understanding.
