Introducing the Omega Seamaster, made in 1963 .
Water and dust resistance in watches had long been a major issue, but with the outbreak of World War II, demand for them increased rapidly.
At the time, Omega supplied the British military with a large number of watches with waterproof screw-back cases.
After the war, while searching for the optimal mechanism for the waterproof case, the idea of using an automatic movement was reached to reduce the risk of water entering the watch when the crown was operated.
Thus, in 1948 , the world's first waterproof automatic wristwatch, the Seamaster, was born, combining a screw-back waterproof case with an automatic movement.
■Dial and case design
The Seamaster has a simple design but exudes a strong presence.
The dial has the refined look of Omega from the early 1960s,
The silver dial has a special finish that sets it apart from other Seamasters.
The surface has a vertical hairline finish.
It has a metallic, hard luster that is different from the typical sunray finish.
By creating a vertically flowing shadow rather than diffusing the light radially,
It creates a quiet yet powerful presence.
The index uses a slender, sharp-edged upright bar.
Combined with the vertical hairline dial, it gives the overall impression of being tight.
It combines high levels of visibility and aesthetic beauty.
The hands are combined with sharp dauphine hands.
It brings the entire dial together while emphasizing the metallic texture.
A date display is located at the 3 o'clock position.
The slightly recessed date window and metal frame edging make
The vertical hairline dial adds depth,
It adds expression to a face that can often be monotonous.
The Omega logo and "AUTOMATIC" at 12 o'clock and the cursive "Seamaster" at 6 o'clock are placed in a restrained manner, giving the impression of a high level of perfection.
While the case is based on a traditional round case,
It features a sharp design with edges on the sides.
Unlike the soft curves seen on regular Seamasters,
The linear form gives the impression of
The whole is given a refined outline.
The bezel is kept thin, and combined with the edgy case lines,
A design that further accentuates the metallic look of the dial.
The straight lugs naturally complement the sharp lines of the case sides, creating a neat and modern look reminiscent of the 1960s.
One of the attractions of this design is that it does not make an overly assertive statement, but rather expresses individuality through its proportions and surface composition.
Although it has a simple round case, by paying attention to the details,
The beauty of its design, which is different from that of the regular Seamaster, is quietly conveyed.
■ Movement
The movement is the automatic "Cal. 562" with 24 jewels.
It is one of the most representative calibers of the Seamaster of the 1960s.
It is designed with an emphasis on practicality and durability.
24 jewels full rotor automatic movement
It has excellent winding efficiency and provides stable accuracy in everyday use.
The design prioritizes reliability without relying on excessive decoration.
It strongly reflects Omega's philosophy at the time of creating "high-quality practical watches."
■Styling
This piece features sharp case lines and a metallic dial.
This is a piece that goes particularly well with neat outfits.
It blends naturally with jackets and shirt styles,
It adds a subtle sense of intelligence and elegance to your hand.
On the other hand, even when paired with a simple knit or cut-and-sew top,
It tightens the overall look without being overly assertive.
It is easy to wear whether you are on or off duty, and brings a quiet elegance to your everyday outfits.
■ Condition
The case may be slightly dirty, but it will be cleaned again during the overhaul, so some of the dirt will be removed.
