SEIKO 57's S-MARK UNIQUE
SEIKO 57's S-MARK UNIQUE
Introducing the Seiko "S Mark Unique" made in 1957 .
Seiko was founded in 1877 when its founder, Kintaro Hattori, established the Hattori Watch Repair Shop. Initially, he sold and repaired used watches and worked as a repairman at other watch shops, striving to improve his skills. Four years later, in 1881 , he founded the Hattori Watch Shop.
Initially, the company sold and repaired imported watches, but in 1892 , in order to utilize the technology it had cultivated up until then, it established a watch manufacturing division called "Seikosha."
Starting with the manufacture of wall clocks, the company built the foundations for Japan's watch industry by successfully developing the first domestically produced pocket watches and wristwatches, and its technological capabilities are now among the best in the world.
The Seiko "Unique" was released as a sister model to the "Super," Seiko's first center second watch, and the "Unique" comes in many unique designs.
The dial is white, and at the 12 o'clock position is the snake-like symbol commonly known as the "Snake S ", which was seen on early production models.
The indexes are Arabic numerals at 12 and 6 o'clock, surrounded by trapezoidal applique indexes.
The Arabic numerals are designed to be small to match the other indexes, and the comical and cute numerals are unique to this watch.
The stainless steel case is large for a three-hand watch from the 1950s .
It has a sense of volume when worn and the dial is easy to read.
Seiko is known for its sharp designs, but this "Unique" is the opposite, with an appealing soft impression.
The movement is a hand-wound type with 15 jewels.
As it is a sister model of the "Super," there are no major changes to the basic structure, but improvements have been made in key areas, such as increasing the number of jewels and improving the durability and operability of the movement.
With a simple structure and a balance wheel with a regulated screw, this movement has the distinctive feel of a vintage watch.
Size: height: 39.1mm , width: 35.2mm , thickness: 9.1mm , weight: 33g .
The unique dial design goes well with casual outfits rather than formal ones, and the moderate volume makes it interesting to pair it with a shirt or T- shirt.
Replacing the strap with a nylon band will give it a more casual look, so it's a good idea to change the strap during hot weather to enjoy the seasonal feel.
The condition is good with only minor scratches on the case and no noticeable scratches.
Some parts of the dial show signs of aging, but this does not affect legibility and actually enhances the vintage feel of the watch.
The movement is running smoothly.

When selling antique watches at RESUME, we do not immediately hand them over to you when you place your order. Instead, we ask a professional craftsman to overhaul them (hereafter referred to as OH) and deliver them to you after the OH is completed. (This takes about 1 to 2 months.)
A professional craftsman with first-class watch repair technician qualifications will completely disassemble your watch, replace worn parts such as the internal gaskets, clean it, oil it, and perform a thorough overhaul, maintaining it to a daily accuracy of about ±1 minute.
When we deliver the machine, we will also send you our own overhaul certificate, which shows what kind of overhaul was performed, as well as photos of the machine being disassembled and maintained.
Of course, due to the nature of the product itself being a second-hand item, there is no guarantee that it will never break, but we ask for your understanding that we take this approach so that you can enjoy the original performance of the watch and use it with peace of mind in the future.
When you purchase a product, we offer a one-year warranty depending on the model. Even if the warranty period has expired, we will properly repair the product, but there will be a fee. If there is no repair shop near you, please feel free to contact us.
