Introducing the 1963 Seiko "Skyliner."

The Seiko "Skyliner" was introduced in 1961 as a hand-wound watch aimed at a wider audience, following the lineage of the "Liner," a slim luxury watch produced by Suwa Seikosha.

At that time, the thinness of a wristwatch was considered a mark of quality and beauty.
The Skyliner inherited the refined design and slim style of the Liner, but by streamlining its finishing and construction, it achieved a more accessible price point.
It was developed as a practical watch that also added elegance to one's attire, targeting a wide range of people, including younger generations.

The Cal. 402, adopted in early Skyliner models, was a thin hand-wound movement in the Liner lineage.
It later evolved into the Cal. 6220 series, which included calendar models with date displays.
Amidst the growing popularity of automatic watches in the 1960s, the Skyliner maintained its thinness and refined appearance, characteristic of hand-wound movements, making it one of Seiko's representative thin dress watches.

■Dial and Case Design

The dial features a silver sunray finish that shows delicate expressions depending on how the light hits it.
A circular line drawn around the inside of the indexes divides the dial into inner and outer sections, creating a three-dimensional feel within a simple composition.

The three-dimensional bar indexes have fine grooves, and together with the sharp dauphine hands, they create rich shadows depending on the angle of light.
The flowing "Seiko Skyliner" logo at 12 o'clock and the "21 JEWELS" and "DIASHOCK" markings at 6 o'clock add to the charm of early Japanese watches.

The case is round, with a slender bezel that makes the dial appear larger.
Multiple facets are provided on the lugs that extend straight outwards, emphasizing a sharp outline depending on the viewing angle.
It is a design that combines the elegance and strength characteristic of the early 1960s, with soft curves created by a domed crystal and a thin case, paired with linear lugs.

■Movement

The movement installed is the hand-wound Cal. 402, manufactured by Suwa Seikosha.
It features a slim design with a diameter of approximately 25.6mm and a thickness of approximately 3.35mm, supporting the sleek case style of the Skyliner.

It uses 21 jewels and has a vibration frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour.
The balance wheel is equipped with Seiko's unique "Diashock" shock-resistant device to protect the pivot from impacts.

The bridges feature a hairline finish, and the words "SEIKOSHA," "21 JEWELS," and "402" are displayed in vivid orange.
In addition to the functional beauty of the machine, the aesthetic sense characteristic of Japanese watches of that era can be felt even in the parts normally hidden inside the case.

This movement allows you to experience the unique charm of a vintage hand-wound watch, including the ritual of winding the crown daily.

■Styling

The case size is 44.1mm (including lugs) in length / 39.1mm (including crown) in width / 8.4mm in thickness / 33g in weight (including strap).

The elegant design, combining a silver dial with a slim case, pairs well with neat attire such as jackets and shirts.
Adding a black leather strap tightens the overall outline and blends naturally with suit styles.

On the other hand, it is also recommended to incorporate it into simple casual styles, such as with high-gauge knits or plain cut-and-sew tops.
The modest size and delicate appearance, unlike modern watches, add a calm elegance to your wrist without overstating your attire.

Changing the strap to brown or gray gives a softer and lighter impression.
This watch can be enjoyed both on and off duty, allowing you to change its atmosphere according to your clothing and the season.

■Condition

The case shows minor scuffs and scratches from use, but there are no noticeable scratches or dents that would significantly detract from its appearance.
The dial and hands also show no significant damage, maintaining good condition for a vintage watch over 60 years old.

The current crystal has scratches and will be replaced with a new one during pre-sale maintenance.
After replacement, the legibility of the dial will improve, and you can enjoy a cleaner appearance.

There are no other noteworthy defects, including the movement.
Before sale, we will perform an overhaul at our store to ensure it is in a reliable condition for you to use.

■To ensure your peace of mind when purchasing

All watches handled by our store are inspected internally by a professional watch repair technician upon arrival, and only after being determined authentic are they put up for sale, so you can use our services with confidence.

When purchasing a watch, we will attach a new leather strap from our store.
Please select your desired color from the order selection tab when placing your order.
*For watches with original straps or metal bands, the leather strap will not be attached but sent separately as a spare.
Additionally, a dedicated watch case will be sent at the time of shipment.

●Important information regarding the purchase of antique watches, please read carefully●

At RESUME, when selling antique watches, we do not hand them over immediately after an order is placed.
Instead, we request a complete overhaul (OH) from a specialized craftsman, and delivery will be made after the OH is completed (approx. 1-2 months).

A professional craftsman, certified as a Class 1 watch repair technician, will completely disassemble the watch, replace consumable parts such as internal gaskets, clean, and lubricate it.
The watch will be thoroughly overhauled to achieve an accuracy of approximately ±1 minute per day.
Upon delivery, we will also provide our unique OH certificate, which details the work performed during the OH, as well as photographs of the disassembled and serviced movement.

Of course, due to the nature of the product being used, there is no absolute guarantee that it will never break, but we take these measures to ensure that you can enjoy the original performance of the watch and use it with peace of mind in the future. We appreciate your understanding.

When purchasing a product, a 1-year warranty period is provided depending on the model. Even for products whose warranty period has expired, we offer repair services, although a fee will apply.
