Introducing the 1974 Seiko "Speed-Timer".
In 1969, Seiko released the "5 SPORTS Speed-Timer" equipped with the automatic chronograph movement "Cal.6139".
At a time when watch manufacturers in various countries were developing automatic chronographs, Seiko commercialized the Cal.6139, which features a column wheel and vertical clutch.
It is known as a highly practical chronograph that combines smooth operation and stable performance.
The Speed-Timer is a model that incorporates the technology Seiko cultivated in the field of sports timing into a wristwatch.
With a highly legible dial, vibrant chronograph hands, and convenient features for daily use, this watch embodies the functional beauty characteristic of the 1970s.
■Dial and Case Design
The dial is a sunray dial with a deep green base.
Light radiates from the center to the outer edge, changing its expression from vibrant blue-green to calm dark green depending on the angle.
It is a dial with a strong presence, characteristic of 1970s Seiko, that possesses the robustness of a sports watch while revealing a lustrous color depending on how the light hits it.
Striking features are the orange chronograph hands and the "Speed-Timer" logo.
The clear contrast with the green dial enhances legibility as a measuring instrument and also serves as a strong design accent.
The indexes are silver-colored applied bar indexes.
By adding a white line in the center, visibility is high even on the deep green dial, reinforcing the practical impression of a sports watch.
The hands have a special shape, different from typical bar hands.
Luminescent paint is applied to the sides, and this focus on functionality contributes to the sporty design characteristic of the Speed-Timer.
A 30-minute counter is located at the 6 o'clock position.
The silver-colored sub-dial adds a bright contrast to the green dial.
The case employs a thick stainless steel case.
In contrast to the rounded bezel, the lugs extend thick and straight, creating a powerful silhouette characteristic of a chronograph.
The sides are equipped with a crown and push-buttons at the top and bottom, forming a design that clearly expresses its functionality as a tool.
The crystal has a raised shape, creating depth in the dial when viewed from an angle.
Despite its considerable thickness, the balance is maintained so that it does not appear too heavy, thanks to the rounded bezel and the lines of the lugs.
■Movement
The movement is the automatic chronograph movement "Cal.6139B".
The Cal.6139 series is one of Seiko's representative automatic chronograph movements.
A major feature is that it combines a column wheel and a vertical clutch, allowing for both excellent chronograph operation and stable performance.
It has a simple chronograph configuration with a 30-minute counter, making it a highly practical design suitable for daily use.
It is a movement that offers both the functionality of a sports watch and Seiko's solid craftsmanship.
■Styling
Case size: length: 41.5mm, width: 39.1mm, thickness: 13.8mm, weight: 100g.
For styling, we recommend pairing it with casual outfits to leverage the watch's sporty impression.
It pairs well with casual items like denim jackets, sweatshirts, and military jackets, with the green dial and orange accents providing a pop of color on your wrist.
It is also easy to incorporate into simple combinations like a white shirt and chinos, allowing you to enjoy a subtle presence characteristic of a chronograph.
With its 70s coloring and functional design, this watch adds a unique vintage touch to your everyday look.
■Condition
The condition of the case is good with no noticeable scratches.
The dial maintains a beautiful state with no signs of aging or corrosion.
The movement is running well, and there are no issues with its use.
The chronograph function can also be used without any problems.
It is fitted with an aftermarket metal bracelet.

At RESUME, when selling antique watches, we do not hand them over immediately upon order.
Instead, we request a complete overhaul (hereinafter referred to as OH) from a specialized craftsman, and deliver the watch after the OH is completed. (This process takes approximately 1-2 months.)
A certified Level 1 watch repair technician will completely disassemble the watch, replace worn parts such as internal gaskets, clean, and lubricate it.
Through thorough OH, the watch will be serviced to achieve a daily difference of approximately ±1 minute.
Upon delivery, we will also send our unique OH certificate, detailing the work performed during the OH, along with photographs of the machine's disassembly
and servicing.
Of course, due to the nature of the product being pre-owned, there is no absolute guarantee that it will never break.
