Introducing the 1950s Tudor "Oyster Date".
Developed by Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex, Tudor was born with the aim of delivering the robustness and reliability of Rolex to a wider audience.
The Tudor trademark was registered in 1926, and then "Montres Tudor SA" was officially established in 1946.
At the time, Tudor had a deep relationship with Rolex, but a key feature was that it offered more practical and affordable watches.
In particular, models that adopted the Oyster case gained high trust as practical watches that prioritized water resistance and durability.
In the 1950s, Tudor developed practical models such as the "Oyster Prince" and established a reputation as a robust wristwatch suitable for everyday use.
■Dial and Case Design
The dial features a deep black color.
Due to aging, the color has softened slightly, and instead of a strong glossy black, it evokes a calm expression characteristic of the 1950s.
The indices are primarily Arabic numerals.
The gold-colored numerals are not a flat print, but have a slightly three-dimensional finish that gives a sense of thickness.
Depending on how the light hits them, shadows are created around the edges of the numerals, subtly changing their appearance on the black dial.
Combined with the outer minute track, it creates an intricate look characteristic of the 1950s, even within its classic aesthetic.
A date display is positioned at 3 o'clock.
As indicated by the "OYSTER DATE" inscription, this is a practical date model that blends in naturally without disrupting the overall balance of the dial.
The hands consist of gold-colored hour and minute hands, combined with a slender central second hand.
The combination of the black dial and gold color ensures legibility while creating a warm, vintage watch feel.
The case is made of stainless steel, adopting Rolex's Oyster case.
It features a robust construction with a screw-down case back and crown, reflecting the design philosophy of practical watches from that era.
The combination of a rounded bezel and powerfully extending lugs creates a three-dimensional design characteristic of Oyster cases from the 1950s.
Despite its compact size, the thick case silhouette provides a substantial presence on the wrist.
■Movement
The movement installed is the manual-winding Cal.2423.
As it is a manual-winding movement without a rotor, winding the crown stores power in the mainspring to operate the watch.
The bridges are engraved with "TUDOR 17 RUBIES SWISS MADE," conveying the practical atmosphere characteristic of Tudor at the time.
Without an automatic winding mechanism, the structure is relatively simple, making it an attractive choice as an easy-to-handle everyday watch.
■Styling
Case size: 40.7mm (including lugs) / 36.9mm (including crown) / 9.7mm thick / 38g weight
The deep black dial combined with gold-colored Arabic numerals pairs well with formal attire.
When worn with a jacket or shirt, it adds a calm, classic touch to the wrist.
Pairing it with a black leather strap naturally connects with the dial's color, tightening the overall impression.
On the other hand, the dial with Arabic numerals has a welcoming familiarity, making it easy to incorporate into casual outfits such as knits, cardigans, and denim.
It also has the practical appeal unique to an Oyster case, blending naturally into everyday styling despite its classic appearance.
■Condition
Considering its age, the condition remains good.
There are minor scratches on the case from use, but no noticeable major damage that detracts from the overall appearance.
The dial and hands show no significant deterioration that would compromise their aesthetic, allowing you to enjoy the calm expression characteristic of a vintage watch.
Additionally, the screw-down crown, a feature of the Oyster case, is in good condition.
This piece maintains excellent condition, including its exterior, dial, and crown area.

Our professional craftsmen, who hold Level 1 watch repair technician qualifications, will completely disassemble the watch, replace worn parts such as internal gaskets, clean, and lubricate it. We perform thorough OH to achieve an accuracy of ±1 minute per day.
Furthermore, when delivered, we will send our unique OH certificate, along with photos of the movement disassembly and maintenance, to explain the work performed during the OH.
