SEIKO 62's CROWN Special Cal.341
SEIKO 62's CROWN Special Cal.341
Introducing the Seiko Crown Special made in 1962 .
At the time, the thinner and smaller the watch was, the better it was said to be, but Crown dared to make its movement larger.
The difference is only a few millimeters, but when you actually compare them, the impression you get is very different.
However, by deciding to make it larger, we were able to obtain various benefits, such as improved maintainability and part durability.
The release of the Crown was a great achievement in instantly raising the reputation of Japanese-made watches up to world standards, and it had a major impact on the development of later Seiko watches.
This is one of the most representative models of Seiko watches.
The Seiko "Crown Special" we are introducing this time is a high-end model of the popular Crown.
Grand Seiko (hereinafter referred to as GS ) was released in 1960 and was popular from the time, but due to its high price, it was not a watch that everyone could purchase.
That's why the Crown Special was created to appeal to a wide range of buyers, with a high-end model specification but at an affordable price.
The dial is an SD dial with a mark resembling the sun at the 18 o'clock position.
This is a high-end model with solid gold used for the index material.
The hands are the same as those of the GS , with dolphin hands that have a flat top surface, and compared to the mountain-shaped hands of a regular crown, they look larger, giving an imposing and powerful impression.
What's especially noteworthy about the dial is the fading that has occurred over time.
Over the course of more than 60 years, the dial, which was originally silver, has turned a distinctive purple color.
The purple dial, combined with the gold indexes, has a heavy feel to it, evolving into a color that captivates the viewer.
The case is finished with 80 micron gold plating, which means you can enjoy the natural color of the gold, unlike gold plating.
The Crown Special maintains the practicality of the Crown while offering a high-grade exterior.
This is truly a special edition model that lives up to its name "Special."
The movement is a 23 jewel hand-wound Cal.341 .
The exterior of the machine is beautifully finished, with decorative grooves carved into the ratchet wheel and various screws neatly polished.
However, since the basic structure is not much different from that of a normal crown, it is a highly practical movement.
Size: height: 44.3mm , width: 38.3mm , thickness: 10.7mm , weight: 40g .
Although it is a large size for a Crown, the striking face color and the shine of the case make it a vibrant addition to your wrist.
It goes well with a jacket, denim jacket, or dark colored shirt, and the shine of the watch will create an elegant look.
The condition of the case is good with only minor scratches from use and no noticeable scratches or dents.
The dial shows signs of aging, but it adds to the vintage feel. There is no noticeable corrosion, so there is no problem with visibility.
The movement is in beautiful condition with no rust and works perfectly.
