Introducing the 1971 Seiko "Seven Star Deluxe."
The Citizen "Seven Star" series, produced from the late 1960s to the 1970s, was one of the company's leading practical automatic watch series.
Its characteristic features were its robust construction suitable for daily use, rather than the excessive ornamentation seen in high-end models, and its practicality, including day and date displays.
During that period, Japanese watches saw a widespread adoption of automatic movements and calendar functions, significantly advancing their completeness as user-friendly wristwatches.
Among them, the Seven Star was developed as a model that combined Citizen's characteristic rational design with a design that reflected the trends of the time.
■ Dial and Case Design
The dial is a deep gray, like gunmetal.
Unlike bright silver, it features a metallic color with a slightly darker tone, giving it a calm yet sharp impression.
The surface is not highly reflective; instead, it has a texture where the shades of gray gently change depending on the angle.
Despite its simple color scheme, the dial as a whole exudes a profound atmosphere.
A dark gray minute track is placed around the outer edge.
By switching the color around the minute markers, it adds depth to the dial and gives the overall design a clean, defined look.
The indices are black applied bar indices.
By intentionally using black instead of silver or gold, a subdued contrast is created against the gunmetal-toned dial.
The hands are also uniformly black, giving the watch a sharp overall impression.
The day and date display is located at the 3 o'clock position.
The large calendar window not only enhances visibility but also serves as a prominent design element on the dial.
The fact that it incorporates a day-date display without disrupting the overall balance is another appealing feature of this model.
The case features a cohesive design made of stainless steel.
Unlike typical round cases where the lugs appear separate, this model is characterized by lines that flow naturally from the case sides to the lugs.
With its rounded yet edgy construction, it evokes a modern atmosphere typical of 1970s watches.
Furthermore, the thick crystal combined with the robust case lines gives it a noticeable presence on the wrist.
■ Movement
The watch is equipped with an automatic Cal. 5270 movement.
It is a practical 21-jewel automatic movement with day and date displays.
It also supports manual winding, allowing you to start using it by winding the mainspring with the crown, even if it hasn't been used for a while.
It also features a quick-set date function, making it easy to handle as a vintage watch with day-date functionality.
■ Styling
Case size: 40.6mm vertical (including lugs) / 37.3mm horizontal (including crown) / 10.8mm thickness / 46g weight
The gunmetal-toned dial and black indices pair well with jacket and shirt styles.
It offers a more substantial look than a silver-dial watch, adding a fitting gravitas to the wrist that naturally blends with sophisticated attire.
Furthermore, the integrated design of the stainless steel case makes it easy to pair with casual styles like knitwear and denim, allowing you to enjoy a slightly modern feel characteristic of the 1970s.
Though not flashy, the metallic texture of the dial and the subtle black accents create a refined impression, making it a piece that adds sharpness to simple outfits.
■ Condition
Regarding the condition, the case shows minor scratches from use, indicating some signs of wear.
However, there are no noticeable dents or damages that would hinder its use, making it in a condition perfectly suitable for a vintage watch.
The crystal has been replaced with a genuine deadstock glass crystal.
You can enjoy clear visibility without compromising the original atmosphere.
The dial, hands, and indices also show no significant deterioration that would detract from their appearance.
The movement will be serviced after purchase, ensuring peace of mind.
