HAMILTON 40's R88-W-800 Cal.987S
HAMILTON 40's R88-W-800 Cal.987S
Introducing the Hamilton R88-W-800 from the 1940s .
Founded in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA in 1892 , Hamilton is a watch manufacturer that grew alongside the development of railroads.
In April 1891 , a railroad employee's watch was four minutes slow, causing a major train collision.
As a result of the accident, the standards and appraisals of railway watches, which had not previously been established, were unified.
After that, various manufacturers competed to produce railway watches, but many railway workers had an overwhelming trust in the accuracy and durability of Hamilton watches, and between 1893 and 1969 , 51 types and 2.7 million watches were adopted.
They called Hamilton "the timekeeper of American railroad watches" and its name quickly spread throughout America.
It can truly be said that this is a manufacturer that was nurtured by railways.
The Hamilton R88-W-800 we are introducing this time is a watch that was issued to the US Navy in the 1940s .
This is an extremely rare model that is rarely seen these days due to the US military collecting military supplies in the 1960s .
The dial is black with Arabic numerals printed on the indexes, and the numbers 10, 20, 30... are arranged around the outside of the numerals every 10 seconds.
The hands are a unique combination, with a pencil hand for the second hand and a spade hand for the hour hand.
The minute and hour hands are easy to distinguish, and the spade hands are coated with a large amount of luminous paint, making them highly visible even at night.
The beige dot indexes add an accent and give the watch a cute look.
The company name " HAMILTON " is engraved in hidden letters at the 6 o'clock position so as not to be noticeable during operations, but when light is shone on it the letters appear to float and become visible.
The case is a simple round case.
The case back is engraved with the Navy number of the time, and the original case has an " H " mark engraved on the top of the case.
Although it has a cute, round appearance, the countless small scratches engraved on the case are proof that it has survived the harsh environments that it was in use, and despite its appearance, the R88-W-800 is extremely tough.
The movement is a 17 -jewel hand-wound Cal.987S .
Opening the back reveals a soft iron case that protects the movement from dust and magnetism.
It is a durable movement with stable accuracy and the ability to be used in harsh environments without breaking.
It also has a "hack function" that stops the second hand when you pull the crown.
Size: height: 38.6mm , width: 34.3mm , thickness: 12.2mm , weight: 34g .
It is a very small size, typical of watches from the 1940s , but it has a distinctive, round thickness that gives it a strong presence even when worn by a man.
The size is easy to wear for people with thin wrists and women.
The condition is good, with noticeable scratches on the case, but no noticeable dents, and there are no problems with use.
The dial is in beautiful condition with no corrosion.
The movement is working fine and the hack function works fine.
The belt shows signs of wear, but it is the same belt used by the US military at the time.
We will include a new belt with your purchase, so if you would like to exchange it for another one, please let us know.
