We are pleased to introduce the International Watch Company "Schaffhausen" from 1955.
This is a piece equipped with the manual-winding movement "Cal.89," which is essential when talking about the history of IWC.
Cal.89 is a representative manual-winding movement of IWC, which appeared in the late 1940s.
It features a simple structure of 18,000 vibrations per hour and 17 jewels, with a Breguet overcoil to ensure stable accuracy.
It boasts excellent durability and maintainability, and due to its high reliability, it was installed in various IWC models, including the "Mark 11" aviation watch.
1955, the year this individual piece was manufactured, was an era when Cal.89 was active as a flagship movement.
You can feel the solid and robust watchmaking of IWC at that time in its sturdy design, which prioritized practicality.
■Dial and Case Design
The dial is a bright white.
It has a simple composition with minimal decoration, and fine dotted minute markers are arranged on the outer edge.
The indices are three-dimensional applied bar indices.
They have a sharp shape that tapers towards the tip, and only the 12 o'clock position combines two, adding a nice accent to the clean dial.
The hands are alpha hands that extend thinly from the center to the tip.
They harmonize with the sharp indices, tightening the overall look of the dial.
In the center of the dial, the cursive logo "International Watch Co. SCHAFFHAUSEN" is placed.
The classical notation, different from the current IWC, evokes the atmosphere of a 1950s watch.
The case is a rounded stainless steel case.
The thin bezel creates a balanced look where the dial appears wider.
The case and lugs have gentle curves, tapering towards the tips.
Viewed from the side, the lugs are slightly lowered, designed to fit comfortably on the wrist.
It is an elegant design typical of IWC at the time, with understated decoration yet a three-dimensional feel created by the indices, hands, and lug shape.
■Movement
The movement is IWC's representative manual-winding "Cal.89."
Although it requires daily winding of the crown, its relatively simple structure makes it easy to use for a long time with proper maintenance.
Additionally, its central seconds hand makes it easy to read the time, making it a practical design suitable for daily use.
It is a movement recommended for those who want to enjoy vintage watches on a daily basis, as it prioritizes stable operation and ease of use rather than ornate mechanisms.
■Styling
Case size: Length 41.4mm (including lugs) / Width 36.9mm (including crown) / Thickness 9.9mm / Weight 37g
The elegant design with a white dial and slender alpha hands pairs well with smart casual attire such as jackets and shirts.
The black leather strap tightens the overall impression and naturally complements a suit style.
Meanwhile, the simple dial with minimal decoration also goes well with casual attire like knitwear, cardigans, and denim, adding a calm, classic touch to your wrist.
It is a subtle yet striking piece that can be used for a wide range of styling, both on and off-duty.
■Condition
The movement shows slight dirt due to age.
However, there are no issues with its current operation, including winding and hand-setting.
Other than that, no significant damage that would impede use is observed.

●Important information after purchasing an antique watch, please read carefully●
At RESUME, when selling antique watches, we do not hand them over immediately after receiving your order.
Instead, we request an overhaul (hereinafter referred to as OH) from a specialized craftsman, and deliver the watch after the OH is completed. (This typically takes about 1-2 months.)
Our specialized craftsman, who holds a Class 1 watch repair technician qualification, will completely disassemble the watch, replace consumable parts such as internal gaskets, clean, and lubricate it.
We will perform a thorough OH and service the watch to an accuracy of approximately ±1 minute per day.
Upon delivery, we will also send our unique OH certificate, which details the work performed during the OH, along with photos of the movement's disassembly and servicing.
Of course, due to the nature of used products, there is no absolute guarantee that the watch will not break, but we take these measures so that you can enjoy the original performance of the watch and use it with confidence in the future. We appreciate your understanding.
When purchasing a product, a 1-year warranty period is provided depending on the model. Even for products whose warranty period has expired, we offer repair services for a fee.
Please feel free to consult us even if there is no repair shop nearby.
