IWC (International Watch Company) 60's SCHAFFHAUSEN Cal.853
IWC (International Watch Company) 60's SCHAFFHAUSEN Cal.853
Introducing the IWC "Schaffhausen" in the 1960s .
"Automatic" is a mechanism in which the rotor rotates with the swing of your arm, winding the mainspring and moving the watch.
Traditionally, unidirectional winding, in which the rotor winds the mainspring in a fixed direction, has been the mainstream, but if you stay in the same position for a long time, you may not be able to wind the watch sufficiently and it will stop before you know it.
Therefore, in 1950 , IWC 's technical director Albert Pellaton designed the Caliber 85 movement, which featured a heart-shaped cam.
Equipped with a new transmission mechanism including a special cam, Cal.85 allows the mainspring to be wound efficiently from either the left or right side, making it possible to sufficiently wind the mainspring with less movement, ensuring stable operation. I was able to do.
From this historical invention, it came to be called the "Pellaton automatic winding" in honor of its creator, and is a technology that is still inherited by IWC today.
Schaffhausen has an eye-catching old IWC font that makes it instantly recognizable as IWC, and the speckled pattern on the dial gives you a sense of its history up to today.
After more than 60 years, the dial has faded to a pale beige color and has become speckled, giving it a more classical and atmospheric look.
Because the original dial, including the hands and indexes, is simple, you can feel from this watch that it has been able to adapt to the natural changes caused by aging without any discomfort. This is a truly miraculous design. .
The movement is equipped with a 21- jewel automatic winding Cal.853 .
It is said to be the completed version of the Pellaton automatic winding model that started with Cal .
It is a machine that has a beautiful finish that is not only good for performance, but also for its appearance, making it a delight for those who see it.
Size: Height: 42.1mm , Width: 36.8mm , Thickness : 10.5mm .
A feeling of size that is easy to wear by anyone, typical of the 1960s .
The design is simple, so you can wear it with any style without looking out of place.
The edges of the case remain firm and the movement is in good working order.
The dial is a matter of personal preference, but it has aged in a vintage style. There is no problem with visibility.
Schaffhausen has an atmosphere worthy of its name, Old Inter.
Even if the same model exists, there are various individual differences due to aging, so it is natural that Schaffhausen with this expression is a valuable watch that only exists in the world.
