Longines is a historic watch manufacturer founded in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, in 1832.

Having pursued precision and durability early on, Longines earned a high reputation since the pocket watch era and has produced numerous practical and elegant models in the field of wristwatches.

Longines unveiled its first in-house automatic winding movement in the mid-1940s. By the 1950s, automatic watches had truly become widespread as everyday wristwatches.

This is a 1950s Longines, manufactured during that era. Its elegant dial composition and thinly shaped case lines exude the charm of a refined and practical watch characteristic of Longines at that time.

■Dial and Case Design

The dial is a silver dial with a faint ivory tint.

The calm tones characteristic of the 50s, combined with the soft color that has developed over time, give it a vintage watch appearance. The outer edge features dot-shaped minute markers, ensuring good legibility within its classic design.

The indices are "飛びアラビア" (jump Arabic) style, with Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6, and 9. The other positions are fitted with wedge-shaped applied indices that taper towards the tip. The three-dimensional indices catch the light on the dial, adding a pleasant depth to the simple face.

A small seconds sub-dial is located at 6 o'clock. Its finely executed concentric circles add a subtle accent to the overall dial. The central hour and minute hands are alpha hands with luminous material. In contrast to the soft atmosphere of the dial, the slender silhouette of the hands provides a crisp, refined look.

The case is a rounded case with a gentle curve.

The thinly shaped bezel combined with the cleanly extended lugs creates an elegant form typical of 1950s dress watches. Viewed from the side, the case has a moderate thickness, giving it a distinctive presence characteristic of an automatic model.

The lugs are slender but taper naturally towards the tips. This design prevents the overall impression of the case from being heavy and pairs well with classic leather straps.

■Movement

The watch is equipped with a Longines automatic winding movement.

Although there is no caliber number engraving, the finishing of the bridges and rotor, and the arrangement of each part, indicate the careful design typical of Longines at that time.

In an era when manual winding watches were mainstream, the automatic winding mechanism, which winds the mainspring with arm movement, was a practical feature that enhanced convenience for daily use. The robust construction, emphasizing accuracy and stability, reflects the quality of Longines as a practical watch in the 1950s.

■Styling

Due to its small and elegant case size, it naturally blends in with jacket and shirt styles.

The combination of the ivory-tinted dial, gold-colored indices, and alpha hands pairs well with classic attire, and when worn with a wool jacket or slacks, it enhances the elegant atmosphere characteristic of the 1950s.

Furthermore, when incorporated into casual outfits, it doesn't stand out too much and pairs well with knitwear, cardigans, and shirts in subdued colors.

This vintage watch adds a subtle touch of elegance to your wrist and is easy to incorporate into everyday wear.

■Condition

The case has minor scratches from use but no noticeable damage or deep scratches. The dial remains in beautiful condition with no deterioration or corrosion. The movement is running well, and there are no problems with its use.

At RESUME, when selling antique watches, we do not deliver them immediately after receiving your order. Instead, we commission a professional craftsman to perform an overhaul (hereinafter referred to as OH), and deliver the watch after the OH is complete. (The period is approximately 1 to 2 months.)

A professional craftsman, who holds a Class 1 watch repair technician qualification, will completely disassemble the watch, replace worn parts such as internal gaskets, clean it, and lubricate it. We will perform a thorough OH and service it to a state with a daily deviation of approximately ±1 minute. We will also send you our unique OH certificate, which details the work performed during the OH, along with photos of the movement disassembly and maintenance, upon delivery.

Of course, due to the nature of the product being used, there is no guarantee that it will never break down. However, we take these measures so that you can enjoy the original performance of the watch and use it with peace of mind in the future, so please understand.
