Introducing the 1970s Rado "Golden Sabre".
In the 1970s, Rado released numerous models with distinctive case designs and highly decorative dials, differentiating themselves from traditional classic Swiss watches.
This "Golden Sabre" is one such piece that embodies Rado's distinctive style from that era.
The model name "SABRE" means sword, and the dial features a dedicated emblem combining a sword and a star.
With its powerful case silhouette, three-dimensional indices, and gold-colored dial, the overall design exudes the glamour and presence characteristic of the 1970s.
While not as widely known as models like the Golden Horse or Diastar within Rado, this is a unique vintage watch that allows you to enjoy the free design sensibility of the time.
■Dial and Case Design
The dial features a pale gold color.
It has a fine vertical hairline finish, giving it a calm texture despite its glamorous color.
The indices are three-dimensional applied indices.
By adding black and red accents to the gold-colored indices, it ensures legibility while achieving a decorative look characteristic of Rado in the 1970s.
At the 3 o'clock position is a day-date display with the day and date arranged horizontally.
The red and black calendar display also acts as an accent on the dial.
At the 6 o'clock position is the "GOLDEN SABRE" emblem, combining a sword and a star.
As a detail symbolizing the model name, it gives the entire dial a unique impression.
The case is a stainless steel case emphasizing straight lines.
A wide bezel surrounds the round dial, and the overall case has a slightly angular, powerful silhouette.
Viewed from the side, it features a thick three-dimensional crystal, which, combined with the robustness of the case, gives it a presence typical of the 1970s.
While possessing Rado's characteristic glamour and individuality, the combination of a gold dial and stainless steel case gives this piece a subdued vintage feel.
■Movement
The movement is an ETA automatic Cal. 2789.
The rotor is engraved with "RADO," housing a 25-jewel Swiss-made movement.
It features a practical day-date complication, displayed horizontally at the 3 o'clock position.
Being an automatic winding watch that winds as you wear it, its ease of daily use is also an appealing feature, despite it being a vintage watch.
■Styling
Case size: Length 41.1mm (incl. lugs) / Width 39.6mm (incl. crown) / Thickness 13.2mm / Weight 96g
This watch is striking with its pale gold dial and distinctive case design.
When paired with a shirt or jacket for a formal look, it adds a touch of 1970s elegance to your wrist.
The gold-colored dial is not overly flashy, and when combined with the stainless steel case, it achieves a calm, vintage-like ambiance.
For casual wear, it pairs well with knits, cardigans, and denim, and when combined with a simple outfit, the watch's unique design provides a nice accent.
This is a versatile piece that can be worn for both formal and casual occasions, while enjoying Rado's decorative flair.
■Condition
Regarding the condition, although there are minor signs of use due to age, it remains in good overall condition.
The case shows no noticeable dents or major scratches, and Rado's distinctive three-dimensional case design is well preserved.
There is a very small chip on a part of the crystal, but it does not affect the legibility of the dial and poses no problem for normal use.
The dial, hands, and indices show no significant deterioration, allowing you to fully enjoy the glamorous atmosphere unique to a gold dial.
The movement has been maintained, so you can use it with confidence.
