SEIKO 56's Marvel
SEIKO 56's Marvel
Introducing the Seiko Marvel, made in 1956.
Seiko, which aimed to create watches that could rival the world's best, released the Marvel in 1956 as the most accurate watch at the time.
This watch was created by rethinking watchmaking up to that point, and while small movements were the norm, this one was deliberately made larger in size.
Created with the aim of achieving high performance, simple structure, and ease of maintenance, Marvel boasted unrivaled performance in domestic competitions, and in 1957 (Showa 32 ) it even won first place in a competition held by the American Horological Society ( Japan branch), beating out Swiss products.
This proves the high performance of domestically produced watches.
With the introduction of Marvel, this watch has gained recognition overseas and is one of the classic Japanese wristwatches that has dispelled the image that "Japanese watches are cheap and of poor quality."
"Marvel" features an impressive S -logo at the 12 o'clock position.
This S -shaped logo is called the " S mark," or "snake S " because it resembles a snake. It is only seen on early production items, so only a small number were produced, making it a highly rare piece.
The dial is white.
The center is designed to be one level higher than the surrounding areas, and lines are engraved in a circular shape.
This creates shadows on the dial, giving it a sense of depth, while also reducing reflections when exposed to light, improving visibility.
The pencil hands and upright bar indexes are all gold.
There are also gold dots surrounding the center of the dial.
The Seiko Marvel has an attractive, elegant and delicate look that is unique to old Seiko.
The movement is a hand-wound type.
By making the size larger than the previous movement, the balance wheel, which can be considered the engine of the watch, has also been enlarged.
This allows for an increase in the number of gears, which improves precision, and smoother transmission to each part, providing various benefits that lead to improved performance.
Unusually for a Seiko movement, the balance wheel has a screw that is a nice touch that makes it look like a vintage watch.
Size: height: 37.6mm , width: 34.4mm , thickness: 9.1mm , weight: 31g .
The small, round shape typical of the 50s is a size that can be worn easily by people with thin wrists and women.
The elegant design makes this a great pairing with slightly more formal outfits such as suits and jackets.
The case is in good condition with no noticeable scratches.
Although there are some stains on the dial, there is no problem with visibility and it is in very good condition considering it is a watch from the 1950s .
The movement is free of rust and runs smoothly.
