Introducing the Seiko "Matic Self-Dater" made in 1962 .
The "Seikomatic" is a model produced between 1960 and 1967 as a thin, high-end automatic watch. Although it was equipped with an automatic winding mechanism, it was designed to be as thin as a hand-wound model.
What is particularly noteworthy about the Seikomatic is that it uses ultra-small ruby ball bearings as a new idea for its automatic winding mechanism.
The polished ruby balls have low friction and move smoothly, allowing the mainspring to be wound securely even with the slightest movement of the arm.
Based on the "Seikomatic" movement, it developed into the subsequent Matic series and Grand Seiko automatic winding models.
The "Matic Self-Date" is Seiko's automatic watch "Matic" with the addition of a date display function.
The "Self Dater" function, which automatically displays the date, was revolutionary at the time and an ambitious design that symbolized the 1960s , a period of great evolution for Japanese timepieces.
The dial features a silver sunburst finish that beautifully reflects radial light.
The “SD mark ” , which is only given to high-end models, is placed at the 6 o'clock position, emanating an air of high-quality presence.
The hands and indexes are finished in the same gold color as the case.
The result is a finish that combines visibility with elegance.
In addition, a calendar window with a black border at the 3 o'clock position contributes to visibility and adds an accent to the design.
The round case is plated with 20 microns of gold, and acquires a unique texture over time.
It has a roughness within its smoothness, and displays an artistic expression that can only be expressed with vintage materials.
This is a classic Seiko model that combines practicality, beauty, and the charm of time.
The movement is equipped with Cal.394 , an automatic winding watch with 24 jewels.
This is the first high-end Seiko automatic watch to feature a date display.
In addition to displaying the date, it also has a date fast-forward function, making it highly practical.
This movement was later used as the basis for the Matic Week Dater and is a highly refined movement.
Size: height: 42.8mm , width: 36.1mm , thickness: 11.6mm , weight: 42g .
It is thin and lightweight, so it does not interfere with the sleeves of a jacket, etc., making it extremely comfortable to wear.
The elegant gold color goes well with elegant styles such as suits, jackets, and shirts.
The gold has aged to a slightly lighter hue, so it fits comfortably on the wrist and is easy to wear without any of the shiny feel that is typical of gold.
As for the condition, there is some discoloration on the case bezel due to aging, but there is no damage such as cracks, so it can be used without any problems.
The dial is in excellent condition with no stains and good visibility.
The movement is running smoothly and the calendar function works without any issues.
Equipped with Bambi Scott Guard, Brown.
