Introducing the 1963 Seiko "Seikomatic Self-Data".

Around 1960, Seiko launched "Seikomatic" as a series of automatic wristwatches.
Contemporary sales materials described it as a "new luxury slim automatic," indicating that it was positioned near the top of Seiko's automatic lineup.

Early Seikomatic models displayed only the time, followed by the "Self-Data" with a date display and the "Week-Data" with both day and date displays.
Seikomatic was a series that offered models with different display functions based on automatic movements.

■ Dial and Case Design

The silver dial features sunray finishing with fine lines radiating from the center to the outer edge.
The brightness changes depending on the angle of the light, giving the clean color a distinctive character.
Furthermore, thin lines divide the dial horizontally and vertically, and overlapping with the sunray finishing, the eye is drawn from the center to each hour marker.

The three-dimensional gold-colored bar indices provide clear markings on the dial while creating a sense of unity with the color of the hands and case.
The hour and minute hands are dauphine-shaped, tapering toward the tips.
The faceted surfaces catch the light, making the time easy to read on the silver dial.
The date window at the 3 o'clock position is surrounded by a black outer frame and a stepped border, serving as an accent on the dial.

The case is round and gold-colored.
The bezel is stepped, creating a contoured transition from the edge of the crystal to the side of the case.
The lugs extend outward from the case and taper toward the tips.
The straight design with flat surfaces adds a sharp impression to the round case.
While the overall design is finished in gold, the combination with the silver dial creates a clean look amidst the elegance.

■Movement

Cal.394 is an automatic movement equipped with 24 jewels. The balance wheel vibrates at 18,000 beats per hour.
The slow-moving low-beat seconds hand is also a characteristic feature of mechanical watches from this era.
Pulling the crown out one click allows you to advance the date.

"Diashock," also marked on the dial, is a shock-resistant structure designed to protect the balance staff, which is susceptible to impact.
The rotor is engraved with "SEIKOMATIC," "SEIKOSHA," and "24 JEWELS," and the movement is also marked with the model name and jewel count.

■Styling

The case size is 42.8mm in height (including lugs) / 36.2mm in width (including crown) / 12.1mm in thickness / 42g in weight (including strap)

The classic design with a gold-colored case and silver dial pairs well with jacket styles.
Pairing it with a white shirt, navy jacket, and slacks, a black leather strap will sharpen the wrist and create a refined impression.

On the other hand, it is also easy to pair with American casual styles such as denim jackets, chambray shirts, and chinos.
The gold-colored case serves as an accent among the rough materials, adding just the right amount of elegance to casual outfits.
It can be incorporated into both polished and casual styles, allowing you to enjoy a wide range of styling options.

■Condition

The case shows some plating wear on the lug at the 12 o'clock position on the back. There is no noticeable damage to the surface of the case, and it maintains a good appearance.

The dial is in a condition that is easy to read. The movement is running smoothly, and there are currently no particular issues.
