Introducing the 1973 Seiko "King Seiko Vanac".
The Seiko "Vanac" series, which debuted in 1972 , strongly reflects the zeitgeist of that era.
Against the backdrop of rapid economic growth, watches began to be demanded not only for practicality but also for design and individuality. In response, Banac introduced avant-garde expressions that were rare in conventional Japanese watches, incorporating vibrant dial colors and bold case designs.
Based on the same high level of manufacturing technology found in King Seiko and Lord Matic models, its most distinctive feature is its strong emphasis on fashion, and it is known as a symbol of Seiko's challenging approach to manufacturing in the 1970s .
■Dial and case design
This 1973 Seiko "Vanac" features a striking, vibrant blue-green dial.
The dial features a gradient where the colors deepen from the outer edge towards the center, and the blue and green hues subtly change depending on the viewing angle and how the light hits it.
The vertical lines help to even out the intensity of the colors, resulting in a vibrant yet neat and cohesive look.
The index features a three-dimensional design with a silver base color and some gold accents.
The multifaceted bar indices catch the light in a delicate way, subtly enhancing the decorative feel reminiscent of the 1970s .
The hands are uniformly sharp bar hands, and the day-date display at the 3 o'clock position is framed in a gold color, adding a nice touch of accent to its practicality.
The watch crystal is fitted with cut glass.
The beveled glass alters how reflections appear, making the dial's color and the indices appear more striking.
The fact that this piece, from this era, features such cut glass is one of its appealing features.
The case has a bold tonneau shape, typical of Banac.
The thick exterior, combined with the sharply defined edges, creates a solid presence in your hand.
While based on straight lines, the subtle curves create a powerful yet cohesive look.
■Movement
The movement is equipped with the automatic winding Cal . 5256 series.
This high-beat movement belongs to the 52 King Seiko series and boasts the high level of practicality and refinement typical of Seiko watches of that era.
While this model is easily noticeable for its vibrant dial and bold case design, it also houses a robust movement within.
■ Styling
The case dimensions are: height: 39.3mm , width: 37.6mm , thickness: 12.2mm , weight: 89g .
Because of its striking design, keeping your outfit simple will allow the watch's unique character to shine through.
When paired with muted colors such as a white shirt, navy knitwear, and gray slacks, the blue-green dial provides a nice accent.
Furthermore, it pairs well with slightly retro items such as denim jackets and open-collar shirts, making it a piece that allows you to naturally enjoy a 70s vibe.
■Condition
The condition is as follows: the case has only minor scratches from use and no noticeable damage.
There are no noticeable scratches on the cut glass crystal.
The dial maintains excellent legibility.
The movement is running smoothly and there are no problems with its use.
It is fitted with a metal bracelet specifically designed for the Banac.

At RESUME, when selling antique watches, we do not deliver them immediately after an order is placed. Instead, we commission a specialist craftsman to perform an overhaul (hereinafter referred to as OH), and deliver the watch after the OH is completed. (This process takes approximately 1-2 months.)
Our expert craftsmen, who hold a first-class watch repair technician qualification, will completely disassemble your watch, replace worn parts such as internal gaskets, clean it, and lubricate it. We will perform a thorough overhaul, servicing it to a condition where the daily rate is approximately ±1 minute.
In addition, when we deliver the machine, we will include our own overhaul certificate detailing the work performed, as well as photos of the machine during disassembly and maintenance.
Of course, as the product itself is a used item, there is no guarantee that it will never break. However, we have taken these measures to ensure that you can enjoy the watch's original performance and use it with peace of mind in the future. We appreciate your understanding.
When you purchase a product, a one-year warranty is provided depending on the model. Even after the warranty period has expired, we still offer repair services, although there will be a charge. Please feel free to contact us even if there are no repair shops near you.
