Introducing the Takano "Precision Prime," manufactured in the 1950s.
"Takano" is a Japanese watch manufacturer with origins in the Takano Clock and Metal Manufacturing Factory, established in 1899.
After manufacturing wall and table clocks, the company began producing wristwatches under the "Takano" name in 1957.
The "Prime" we are introducing today is a model derived from the company's flagship series, "Precision." Introduced around 1959, it is characterized by its elegant design and the meticulous craftsmanship expected of Japanese timepieces.
However, due to the severe damage caused to the headquarters and factory by the Isewan Typhoon in 1959, and the subsequent deterioration of its business, the company came under the umbrella of Ricoh in 1962. Takano manufactured wristwatches under its own brand for less than five years.
Born from a short period of activity, the Prime, combined with the small number of surviving pieces, has become a model of great interest among collectors of Japanese vintage watches.
■ Dial & Case Design
Originally white, the dial has aged over many years to a slightly warm ivory hue.
By combining three-dimensional bar indices with sharp dauphine hands, it creates an elegant presence while keeping ornamentation minimal.
The "Takano Precision" logo is placed at the top of the dial, while the cursive "Prime" and "17 JEWELS" are displayed at the bottom.
The flowing script enhances the graceful atmosphere typical of the 1950s.
The case is an elegant round shape that makes the dial appear larger thanks to its slim bezel.
The linear lugs feature three-dimensional surfaces, allowing you to enjoy the changing shadows depending on the viewing angle.
The combination of a thin, clean case silhouette and a gently domed crystal is also a vintage hallmark.
It is a design that, despite its simple construction, allows you to feel the delicate artistry unique to Japanese watches of that era.
■ Movement
It is equipped with the "Cal. 124," a 17-jewel manual-wind caliber.
Based on a movement prototype from the West German watch manufacturer "Laco," this is a so-called "Laco-type" movement localized by Takano.
It employs a robust structure that supports the gear train with a large bridge, featuring a functional design with minimal decoration.
The bridge is engraved with "TAKANO" and "17 JEWELS," conveying the technical background of Takano's early days of watch manufacturing to the present.
Along with the tactile sensation of winding the watch via the crown, it is a movement that allows you to enjoy the craftsmanship of Takano, a brand that vanished in a short time.
■ Styling
Case size: 42.3mm vertical (including lugs) / 36.4mm horizontal (including crown) / 10.1mm thickness / 36g weight (including strap)
The clean round case and the dial, which has aged to a calm color, pair well with classic jacket styles.
When worn with a shirt or a high-gauge knit, you can subtly incorporate the refined quality of vintage style.
A brown leather strap gives it a soft and warm impression, while a black one provides a sharp, formal look suitable for suits.
Thanks to its modest case size and simple design, this watch is easy for both men and women to wear.
It is a versatile piece that fits a wide range of styles, from everyday wear to formal occasions.

At RESUME, we do not ship vintage watches immediately upon ordering. Instead, we have a professional artisan perform an overhaul (OH) after the order is placed, and we ship it to you once the OH is complete. (This process takes approximately 1 to 2 months.)
A professional artisan with a First-Class Watch Repair Technician certification will completely disassemble the watch, replace consumable parts such as internal gaskets, clean it, and lubricate it. We will ensure the watch is serviced to maintain a daily variance of within ±1 minute.
When delivering the watch, we will include our store's unique OH certificate, as well as photographs taken during the disassembly and maintenance of the movement.
As these are vintage products, we cannot guarantee that they will never break down. However, we take these steps so you can enjoy the watch's original performance and use it with peace of mind in the future. Thank you for your understanding.
Upon purchase, we offer a 1-year warranty period depending on the model. Even after the warranty has expired, we can handle repairs for a fee. Please feel free to contact us even if there is no repair shop near you.
